The first part of the process in pest management is to understand a pest’s biology and identifying the problem. Helping to pinpoint the problem is observing the tree and finding whether the root, stem or foliage has been affected. Leaf dieback in the crown, mushrooms and beetles are all indicators of the particular damage. A wealth of knowledge and experience is necessary to accurately diagnose and treat diseased or infested trees, and this is best left to a professional. Integrated Pest Management System

At Arvada Tree Care we use an Integrated Pest Management System. This means using the best or multiple best methods to control the populations of pests without damaging the trees, shrubs or your lawn. A component of IPM is tree and shrub fertilization. Whatever the disease or infestation, spraying your trees has no adverse effects on your lawn. The products applied to your trees and shrubs are often the exact same insecticides and fungicides used by lawn care experts.

Disease and Pest Treatment

Timing is everything in IPM strategy. Treatment to the correct part of the tree or shrub is also paramount. Controlling a tree boring insect requires spraying the trunk and larger limbs. Foliar diseases are when the leaves are targeted. When a tree is too large to adequately spray, the trunk can be injected or you can water apply to the roots. The product is then taken up into the tree and dispersed that way. These latter mentioned applications take longer for the tree to be affected but the protection also lasts longer, up to at least a year.
